It's not realm timer it's pop bonus, and balance problems.
Realm timer slows switching realms (and doesn't do that well). We are having the problem of people not starting on underpopulated realm, and then people who do start on under populated have no problem switching to over populated realm (no rp = easy switch).

This realm disparity has got worse with the 15 min timer! If you increase the realm timer it will make it worse!!!!!!!!!
The instant realm change with low population bonuses caused frequent shifts in population and people logging into those under populated realms.
