Midwinter Festival Event

The days grow short, a chill is in the air, and warm fires glow in our homes. The Midwinter Festival has come once again to the Realms! Visit the festival grounds to take part in the festivities and challenges.
  • Level 50 characters can complete the following quest for the duration of the event:
    • Visit your realm's Cargomaster at the Caer Benowyc, Bledmeer Faste, or Druim Ligen docks to obtain the repeatable '[Midwinter] Roll On' quest!

Olibar, the Midwinter Tomte, will be paying frequent visits to Castle Sauvage, Svasud Faste, and Druim Ligen seeking assistance. He seems to have lost some Midwinter presents throughout the battlegrounds. Speak to him if you wish to assist him. Players on Gaheris between the levels of 35 to 49 can speak to him to receive a special Frontier Gift Retrieval quest instead.

  • Olibar's Gift Retrieval quests can now be done an unlimited amount of times!

Santa Nicholas, Lucia of the Light, and Jack Frost will arrive with gifts for the people of the realms, but there’s been a bit of a crisis: their presents were hijacked and are now in the possession of dangerous enemies. They will offer the Saving Midwinter quest to all adventurers level 48 and above. Save Midwinter and earn a Frozen Cloak of Midwinter and a Frozen Medal of Honor! Visit them at the Winter Villages outside of Ludlow, Ardee, and Vasudheim.

In Albion, Clara sets up a giant tree at the festival tents. Speak with her for information on obtaining an appropriately-sized one for your own home or yard. Nearby, Sister Samantha is collecting toys for the children of Albion. She offers some fine holiday greenery as a reward to those generous souls who answer her call.

In Midgard, Kevin somehow manages to decorate a tree all for himself. Ask him about it and he may give you a few pointers regarding your own arboreal home decorating. The Gythja of Frigg is taking donations of toys from passers-by and granting them wreaths and garlands in return.

In Hibernia, the rather small elf Noelle brings her tree to the festival grounds. She will help you start your own holiday tradition if you want one of your own. Matron Elleweh is looking for assistance in gathering gifts for the children of Hibernia, with a promise of some festive decorations in return.

The Trinkets for Tots quest is available for all levels.

The Midwinter Tree quests start at level 35, however rumor has it that there may be a more advanced challenge to follow for those of level 48 and up.

Frozen Cavern Event

  • Venture to the Frozen Cavern and test yourself against the chill... and its cunning inhabitant: Jack Frost!
  • Visit Njord in the following locations to enter the instance of your choice:
    • Albion: near Merlin's Tower in Camelot
    • Midgard: near the Burial Grounds in Jordheim
    • Hibernia: near the Chamber of Magic in Tir na Nog
  • Two modes exist for this instance: Normal and Challenging
    • The Normal mode has a chance to drop 1 of the following rewards:
      • Frozen chestpieces
      • Frozen and other mythirians
      • Infernal sleeves
      • Darkness Falls jewelry
      • Supremacy, celerity, or omni-regen potions
    • The Challenging mode has a chance to drop 1 of the following rewards:
      • Frozen weapons
      • Frozen chestpieces
      • Frozen mythirians only
      • Darkness Falls jewelry
      • Supremacy, celerity, or omni-regen potions
      • In addition to having a chance at the weapons, the chance at the mythirians and darkness falls jewelry is much higher. The chestpiece chance is the same in both modes.
  • Loot no longer drops directly from Jack Frost, instead a loot chest is spawned when he is defeated.
    • Players can interact with the chest and receive 1 guaranteed reward per day but can still participate in the instance as many times as desired.
    • This chest will despawn after 20 seconds, so be sure to grab your loot quickly!

Traveling Merchants

Players can find the merchants at the below locations. Happy Shopping!

In Albion: Just outside of gates of Castle Sauvage in Camelot Hills
In Midgard: Just outside of Svasud Faste in the Vale of Mularn
In Hibernia: Just outside of Druim Ligen in Connacht

  • First to complain the free stuff wont be any good!

    Bam!
  • IMO kinda crap that F2P doesn't get ANY bonuses from holiday events. I thought we were trying to get people to play? Would be cool to give them 1/2 of our holiday bonuses, even if just for XP no RPs

    Agreed.
  • Lol i just want to know what yhey replaced the blood seals, dragon scales, aurulite, and glass with. Cant wait to see whatvit is just hope that its not just more bps but know complaints from me if they are still the same. Cant wait for the silver bound chest thosee where my favorite day
  • I kind of hope they change the weapons that are given to be the pictslayer weapons that were not included before. I imagine just about everyone has a house vault full of nearly every type of slayer weapon from earlier years. Perhaps astral weapons (not the ones you can get with shards) would be nice...something rare-ish but not done before. Also, we love the ROG rings but again, I think we've all got hoards of them at this point. How about ROG Bracers this time.
  • Bla, no EC inclusion. Pve event when pop already so low. 12 days ends on a holiday (give us a buffer, some of us are traveling or doing stuff on the 1st). Same old rvr event.

Please can we get something focused on bringing the population back up, (maybe an xp bonus for free accounts so they can lvl and join rvr for the holidays). Can we move the frozen rewards to some sort of rvr event reward. And give us some time to login during the holidays (don't give/end a event on the same day)
  • You wont get any changes now. Who works between the years?....

    Plenty of us.

  • I waited for that answer. But many people do not.
  • @Kroko The world wouldn't function if people didn't work through the holiday season. I'm not implying BS is vital to a functioning world, but your question and response seem out of touch with reality.

  • I can't imagine video game developers taking longer vacations then troops, government workers, etc. It's a game they all "say" they enjoy playing.

Instead we will all sit by and watch their F2P collapse and destroy the game we love b/c they won't make changes "over the holidays."

  • Most "good" company make the stuff before the holiday session : ) and then release it on a good timer. You put the content in the game and then flip a switch (think feature toggle, git branches, ext). and yes some people dont work on the holiday but its not like you cant predict when they will arrive.. They happen every year : )

I just think it would be nice if they change some things up each year (if you look at the metrics the population surges around the holidays and people tend to get more kills (cant look at RP as they are scewed with bonuses). I have not imperial data for why this is but I would assume it has to do with some middle age people having more time off and trying out something they did when they where younger or something. however i felt the RVR the last few years have been lacking (im blaming this on PVE event, or new items that have ruined some returning peoples enjoyment).

think, you subcribe around now, make a few level 50's or play a bit update a temp a bit or something and during the time of the year you figured there would be the most action you find NF dead and alot of people sitting around confused at where action is, telling you they are waiting for a group to form for this PVE thing, and saying you "need" to get this item as its a limited time thing, its easiest to get now, it is so good).

yes you can get them with BP now, yes less people are probably going to do it but why did you include it again? cant we get a well thought out RVR event that gets action going all day long and has that "fun" factor for the new returning group that wont get in the leet groups or be a 1v1 beast?

I dont know what that would be but its not the exact same thing as last year but with 2/3's the pop or less
  • @Tyrantanic
Jesus, i know people have to work 365days a year.
So you say, it is wrong that many people are on vacation now?

As they stated, they will make changes to EC next year, i thought they just will not work between the years.
Because otherwise I dont really understand what takes so long to make some changes.
  • The most fun would be any battleground event or Caledonia. Non-stop action.
  • We're not making game changes over this time period right now, no, for various reasons including some mentioned. We're not taking the servers down for changes Christmas week. We're still here, though I might take one day off at some point :D (this is a joke)

Vast majority of changes to DAoC are not easy or quick changes, they take time.

  • Carol you need to move the quest giver for the rolling pins from the dock master to the Festival quest giver. The docks are camped hard so you cant get the quests
    Macwynne, Hero
    Bullorama Warden

  • Too much coding - not possible sorry.

I believe that is the point. They are adding yet another place for solo/small mans etc... to hunt. I think it's perfect that way. I doesn't make it too easy to just rack up BPs (still fairly easy) and stimulates pvp.

I agree. There is already a quest (line) to make bps in PVE. This one promotes a reward for a risk... in an rvr zone

Just an FYI you need to have more than 12 spots free in inventory (For example Day 3 reward is 3 silver boxes and 2 is 2 buff pots (hero and sup)).
